“Build It & They Will Read:” A Collaborative Blueprint for
21st Century Literacy

This session highlights a library media literacy program which
emphasizes a cross-curricular collaborative literacy design that
includes information literacy, media literacy, visual literacy and
technological literacy. A demonstration of “1 Book-1 School
common reading program, an e-book club that targets struggling
male readers, student created book trailers, thematic and family
literacy initiatives and books clubs for both students and staff.
Audience members will participate in a question and answer session
and have the opportunity to share literacy initiatives from their
classroom and/or school.

Presenter: Joanne Berry, Burns Middle School



Joanne Berry is a Nationally Board Certified media specialist at Burns Middle School located in Daviess County. She has over 17 years experience at both the elementary and middle school level. A member of the American Library Association and the American Association of School Librarians and the Kentucky School Media Association, she currently serves on the Kentucky School Media Association Board. In addition, she is a NBPTS candidate support provider for National Board candidates.
